I've been ratting in 0.0 with my friends these days, and found missiles are really good at ratting. A friend of mine has about the same amount of SP as I have, or maybe less, but he kills faster than I do.
To get to know what was the factor, I tried to calculate the damages made by each of us, and found the difference is not that much as I thought.
Raven + Torps:
6 Arbalest Launchers x Jug Torp Damage 450 ken x 1.2 Torp VI x 1.08 Warhead VI = 3499.2 / (19.2 Fire Rate x 0.8 BS VI x 0.75 Missle Launcher V x 0.88 Rapid Launcher VI) = 345.17/s
Dominix + Drones:
5 Wasp I x 24 ken basic damage x 1.45 Damage Modifier x 1.4 BS VI x 2 Drone Interface V x 1.2 Heavy Drone Operation VI = 584.64 / 2 Fire Rate = 292.32/s
Even with T2 Heavies which I can't use now, the calculation still doesn't give me a good result.
5 Wasp II x 24 ken basic damage x 1.74 Damage Modifier x 1.4 BS VI x 2 Drone Interface V x 1.25 Heavy Drone Operation V x 1.08 Caldari Drone Spec VI = 789.26 / 2 Fire Rate = 394.63/s
He has 5 T1 medium drones and I have 4 T1 Large Rail Dual, I thought we don't have much difference on those 'extra' things, do we?
What am I missing in the calculation? And how can I improve?

This truely is not a whining post, but trying to find how to improve. Any suggestions? Do I have to go after guns? Or maybe I should find another ship other than Dominix?

Actually, no. I didn't calculate the moving of drones from one target to another, neither did I mention how slow missiles fly comparing to guns' instant-hit-result factor. Let's say, if I did, doesn't that make drones even worse? Maybe a drone navigation device would make it better?

you should try to add targets speed and signature in the damage calculation of your torps. i guess some of the npcs get less damage than they deserve, by moving, and maybe haveing a lower sig than needed to get max damage.
Drones wont get a big reduction through these figures.
(edit) Try adding 2 target painters, and see if it changes.
Well, I didn't take that in calculation, because that's hard to know. Target painters would help drones to target? Never knew that. Maybe I should try that later.

well, one thing I'm not sure is, how does this calculation go with 2 skill boosts.
For instance, BS VI gives 0.4 boost, and Drone Interface V gives 1.0 boost, is it like:
Basic Damage x 1.4 x 2.0 ?
or
Basic Damage x (1+0.4+1.0) ?

Wonder no further. It's just THAT much better, even with much less SP.
Yes, I've heard ppl calling it 'The Money Printer', but wondered why. Now I know how good it is while ratting, but trying to find out why.
